Well by now the news is out that reality star and sex tape celebrity Kim Kardashian will be the keynot speaker for Webfest. I guess The Situation was busy. So why she and her sister take a break from taking Miami, Kim will takeover Webfest.
Kim Kardashian.com redirects to Celebuzz,Kim Kardashian is a member of BUZZMEDIA Entertainment, a division of BUZZMEDIA and Kim does not own her name in any other major tlds which are all registered. So maybe during the fireside chat someone could tell someone there to speak about their brand, to better protect their brand.
The results were surprising. The arguably least-authentic personality on the list, Kim Kardashian,
has the most legitimate followers of the Top 15 Tweeters, with 43% of
her Twitter fans judged by StatusPeople to be real and active. Ms.
Kardashian’s genuine percentage is more than double that of the lowest
ranking member of the list, Shakira, with a paltry bona fide estimate of 21%. Even more disheartening, Ms. Authentic herself, Oprah Winfrey, per StatusPeople’s ranking, placed a mediocre tenth place, with only 26% of her followers extrapolated as real and active.
Of course its LA and from that standpoint Oversee made the right sizzle pick for glitz and glam. How many questions will be answered and what will be allowed to be asked who knows ?
So Rick can you get Wayne Newton for T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Vegas ?
In an auction closing on Go Daddy today is Pittsburgh Steelers legend TerryBradshaw.com.
Bradshaw who is a part of the FOX NFL Sunday team also has had his fair share of acting gigs. Bradshaw co-starred alongside Kathy Bates and Matthe McConaughey in Failure to Launch.
It is beyond me why someone who is in the public eye, especially being apart of the number 1 sport in the US does not have someone make sure they at least own their first and last name.com.
Another member of the FOX NFL Sunday team, Oakland Raider great Howie Long does not own his name and it goes to a parked page.
There are so many questions and theories about the hoax. With all this news of course it translates to a domain registration. MantiTeoHoax.com was regged today at Go Daddy by a registrant from Montana.
For those wondering FakeGirlfriend.com and FakeGirlfriends.com have been registered for years. Interesting the singular has been regged and dropped 3 times and the plural registered and dropped 5 times.
Meat Loaf (Michael Lee Aday) started his first band in 1967 with Meat Loaf Soul. He released "Bat out of hell" in 1977 and his career took off.
Dean Torkington is a 49 year old man from the UK who has toured with his show To Hell And Back: (A Tribute To Meat Loaf) for 16 years.
Apparently Torkington started using the domain Meatloaf.org in 2000. News from the lancashiretelegraph.co.uk today reports:
last year he was sued for being an ‘online imposter’ by the Californian-based artist.
The row centred on a website which Mr Torkington used to promote his act — www.meatloaf.org.
A judgement issued by the US District Court for the Central District
of California found in favour of 65-year-old Michael Aday, Meat Loaf’s
real name.
Judge Michael Fitzgerald ordered Mr Torkington to drop registration
and control of the website and transfer it to Aday and awarded $25,000
in damages and $4,769 costs to the Bat Out Of Hell singer.
The legal proceedings continued despite a personal plea to the star
from Mr Torkington, in which he compared his current predicament to
problems in the singer’s past.
Joe Jonas is most famously known as part of the Jonas Brothers along with brothers Nick and Kevin. He is lesser known for sharing a birthday with me. Well JoeJonas.com just sold on Sedo for $1500. The name which was dropped once was just registered in 2011.
Earlier in the week Sedo reported that Lukas Haas acquired his name in .com. The 36 year old actor has starred in such films as: Contraband, Inception and Red Riding Hood. LukasHaas.com also sold for $1500.
We have written before that celebrity domains are all over the place.
Ndamukong Suh got his domain through UDRP after the registrant got greedy.
Oliver Stone paid $6000 and autographed a script to the domainer who owned his name.
KateMiddleton.com was sold for $2350. Whois Private.
I have no idea if the $1500 price for a UDRP and these names selling for $1500 is anything more than coincidence, but in a Celebrity crazy world it may help influence a lot of negotiations on Celebrity domain names.
I went and saw the movie The Campaign on Friday night, and thought the movie was really funny and a perfect pairing with Zach Galifianakis and Will Ferrell. The movie is about two political rivals in North Carolina running for election. Zach was great as Marty Huggins a lovable misfit who gets picked to run against Cam Brady played by Ferrell.
There were a lot of laughs in the theater which was packed. When I got home for whatever reason I put in MartyHuggins.com in the browser and sure enough there was Zach. Warner Bros did a great job as there is even a Twitter feed and Facebook page.
Switching over to CamBrady.com showed the exact same result. The Twitter feeds filled with some funny tweets from Brady who is not one too shy away from the ladies or a handout.
Jennifer Aniston the star of the hit sitcom Friends, who has starred in numerous films including: Along Came Polly,Horrible Bosses and most recently Wanderlust has had her domain expire.
Are the people bidding for the name wasting their time or putting themselves up for a udrp ? We have written before how it is all over the place with celebrity domains.
Oliver Stone not only paid $6000 for OliverStone.com but gave the domainer he purchased it from a signed copy of the script of his newest film Savages.
Ndamukong Suh of the Detroit Lions went the other way and won his UDRP against the person owning his name.
The JenniferAniston.com site has had many looks over the years, in 2002 it looked like it was official when it seemed Jennifer was welcoming site visitors about her upcoming website launch. The site had a banner on the bottom promoting her latest film, "The Good Girl "
JenniferJoannaAniston.com (Her full name) was dropped and is available again if Jennifer feels compelled.
We reported last week on the rise of overnight sensation Jeremy Lin in the domain world. Lin has led the New York Knicks to a seven game winning streak and become such a sensation, that he is being compared to Tim Tebow and Tebowmania.
Linsanity.com was registered in 2010, the domain had been registered many times before, dropping five times. Before the Linsanity started it was available in every other extension.
Now over the last week and a half, Linsanity has been registered in the following extensions:
net, org, info, biz,us,ca,cc,ws,asia,me,tv,mobi and .co. The .co actually redirects to a hair extension website called "Xtensify."
Linsanity.com has been under privacy since registered, but the owner is now coming out. Andrew W.Slayton who claims to have been his high school coach back in Palo Alto, is the registrant of Linsanity.com and TheJeremyLinShow.com.
Slayton along with another gentleman have each filed a trademark application for "Linsanity" Yenchin (Matthew) Chang actually filed an application before Slayton who is already selling Tshirts on his website.
What should Lin do? Will these applications for LINSANITY obtain federal trademark registrations? Should Chang and Slayton be allowed to profit from Lin’s success? As a threshold issue, it seems that “linsanity” is more of a catchphrase than a trademark. A trademark is a word, phrase, symbol or design, or a combination of words, phrases, symbols or designs, that identifies and distinguishes the source of the goods of one party from those of others. Here, both applicants propose to use the mark LINSANITY in connection with clothing (Slayton is actually selling shirts emblazoned with “LINsanity”). But is LINSANITY capable of functioning as a source identifier? Probably not. But there is no provision under Section 2 of the Lanham Act, which addresses bars to registration, that requires examination of whether the applied for mark functions as a trademark. Indeed, because Chang has filed an application based on intent-to-use, this issue may be difficult to determine at this stage. The “failure to function” refusal usually arises in connection with evaluating specimens (which are required to be submitted as part of the registration process to demonstrate use of the mark). And that may be where both applications stumble.
The website goes on to talk about how when people tried to register a trademark on "Winning" "Bi-Winning" and "Winning Ma-Sheen" They were rejected:
When faced with applications for WINNING!, BI-WINNING, WINNING MA-SHEEN and others, the Trademark Office refused registration based on Section 2(a) of the Lanham Act. Under Section 2(a), registration of a mark may be barred if, among other things, the mark is the same as, or a close approximation of, the name or identity of another person (not the applicant) and points uniquely and unmistakably to that person. In the WINNING! example, the Trademark Office refused registration on the grounds that the applied-for mark “consists or includes matter which may falsely suggest a connection with the actor Charlie Sheen.”
It is nice to know Charlie Sheen has the market cornered on Winning.
This week Jeremy Lin of the New York Knicks has become an overnight sensation. The undrafted player with a degree from Harvard got his chance to start at point guard for an injury depleted Knicks basketball team.
Lin has set an NBA record with most points scored by any player in their first three games starting in their career. Lin put up 38 in a 92 - 85 win over Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. Lin even outscored Bryant 38 to 34.
A popular phrase being used in Madison Square Garden is "Linsanity" This has been used to describe the frenzy over Mr. Lin this past week. Lin is one of a few Asian-Americans to play in the NBA.
Well it looks like just with "Tebowing" people are registering "Linsanity" domains.
Linsanity.com has been under privacy and registered since 2010. This week a bunch of extensions got registered. Funny thing about the .com its been registered and dropped 5 times.
Linsanity.net/org/us/me/tv/asia/info/biz/cc and even Linsanity.mobi. All were registered this week.
Well Mr. Lin now has some pressure on him not just from Knicks fans but from domainers too.
We live in a star crazed world, people around the world are infatuated with all kinds of celebrities. They are both big business and big interest. In domaining some delve into these domains and others stay far away.
Its like flipping a coin, heads you win and make a sale, tails you lose and its a UDRP.
In a private transaction, Matt Field sold OliverStone.com for $6,000 and yes, the buyer was the famous movie director. Matt said he also received a signed script from the upcoming movie Savages from the celebrity buyer. One day, that could be worth more than the 6K he got for the domain.
Taken from that article: Several months had passed and I checked out the domain name, CristianoRonaldo.com. It was listed for sale at 1500 pounds, a price I could not justify paying given my salary. I called my mother, desperately seeking a backer, and she agreed to lend me 1,000 pounds from her credit card. I called the seller, and eventually convinced him to part with the domain for 1,000 pounds.
I knew quickly I had struck gold. I put a website up and it made around $20 a day from its Google ads. I discussed this with a friend on DNforum.com, the now owner of Bodis.com, Matt Wegrzyn, and he agreed to buy it from me for $11,000.
In that case the owner of the domain wanted some memorabilia for the domain. Matt Field got $6000 plus a script, this guy lost the name and no football tickets.
