Matt Cutts answers: "Why does Google show multiple results from the same domain?"

Have you ever done a Google search and see results one through say six all be the same website ?

Well a lot of people don't like that and its a top complaint that Google hears a lot.

Matt Cutts spoke today about why you get a lot of results from the same domain or domain clustering. Matt said that there will be a new update that will not show you results from one domain and provide greater diversity. He did say if the site is really the absolute best site for the topic you will still see a cluster from the same domain.

Today Matt talks about what Google is working on but also notes that a lot of things can change. One thing for sure is that Penguin 2.0 is coming. He expects it to go deeper and have a bigger impact.

Advertorials will be another hot topic that Google wants to take a look at if they are passing pagerank.

This was a longer video as Matt usually gets through a question in two minutes, he gave a little more info and spent a little more time on this one. The info is pretty basic for an SEO professional but worth listening to for those that are doing it on their own and are never going to hire a professional.

It was funny that Matt actually mentions, "owning a domain name in the first place."

 

What Does Google Think of Single Page Websites ?

I had a reader email me a question about one page websites. They wanted my opinion on whether not Google would look favorably or unfavorably on a website of just one page.

In the past I have gotten some feedback from others on this topic, saying that it was usually only used by mlm or buy my ebook type sites. I think that is more of a squeeze page they were talking about, and  this reader meant a whole site that was not looking to sell a product but provide information.

Luckily someone asked Matt Cutts this last month and Matt gave the answer in the video below.

 

What to do if you received a manual penalty from Google ? Matt Cutts answers Danny Sullivan

Danny Sullivan from Search Engine Land did an email interview with Matt Cutts from Google. It seems like Matt puts a lot of stock in webmasters using the Google Webmaster forum, which many who have used that forum, find it abusive and a lot of times useless. These volunteers cannot give you a specific answer to your specific question.

Read the comments to the article and you will see many find the forum to be a non productive endeavor.

The question is always why can't Google just tell you exactly what they have a problem with specifically ? Matt does not answer this deeply, only to say, "We’ve significantly improved our webmaster messages over time and we’ll continue to look at ways to make the messages more concrete and actionable."

The article does delve into Manual vs Algorithmic penalties and is worth at least a read for any webmaster trying to understand Google a little better.

Park Logic Explains Upcoming Google Parking Changes

Michael Gilmour from Park Logic put together a very informative and important video on coming changes to parking. Members of InternetTraffic.com last week got an email where they had to provide a verification for the names they own.

Gilmour points out how many high paying advertisers are not available to parked domains, these changes from Google may give greater access to these higher paying advertisers.

The video is nine minutes long and worth watching.
