10 Secrets To Sell Your Website at a Premium

Justin Cooke wrote a blog piece on Flippa explaining how he sells on the platform.

Cooke wrote: "Today I want to share with you some of the best tips and tactics we’ve used to sell hundreds of sites and bring in just under $200K in site sales for 2012 via Flippa.

A site valued at $500 isn’t going to sell for 5-figures no matter what tactics you use. Having said that, the methods below have helped us consistently outsell our competitors at prices nearly double what they’re doing."

#1 Be Descriptive

Many unsuccessful auctions on Flippa have very little information in the description. From a buyer’s perspective, if you’re not willing to go into some detail about your site it’s usually a bad sign.

You need to have a high-level summary or overview at the top of the auction copy and then use the rest of the description to dig into the details. Use headers to break up the blocks of text and point directly to the various sections in your auction copy.

I like what Andrew Warner does at Mixergy he interviewed Joe Griffin on how he built his first site which he sold to Website Pro who purchased Web.com for $3 million dollars.

He also talks about how domains were expensive to register so they started with Geo Cities.

Seth Godin posts Six questions for analyzing a website

Seth Godin the founder of Squidoo and author of many best sellers, wrote a post about analyzing websites.

It's tempting to believe that any website can become a perpetual motion machine of profit. But before you start one, invest in one or go to work for one, a few things to ask:

1. What's the revenue per visit? (RPM). For every thousand visitors, how much money does the site make (in ads or sales)?
2. What's the cost of getting a visit? Does the site use PR or online ads or affiliate deals to get traffic? If so, what's the yield?
