The lifestyle website Lifed.com sold for $205,000 on Flippa. The site owner seems to have had success in the past with websites like this as he formerly sold instash.com and therugged.com.

The site is on pace to make $10,000 for December and has averaged a net profit of $6726 over the last three months.

I think anyone building out a website like this can learn some new things by reading carefully the listings that are selling on Flippa.

BetterTravelGuide.com sells for $80,000 on Flippa

The website BetterTravelGuide.com sold for $80,000 on Flippa.

The sales pitch went like this: Better Travel Guide - $40K in 7 Months - ZERO Work ! - 2 Million Uniques/Month.

These types of headlines that there is no work to make $40,000 in less than a year always make you wonder. Of course there was work.

The owner did map out the gameplan for the site in the listing:

BetterTravelGuide.com it is a travel related website with travel stories and hotel listings.

I started the website in April this year with the sole purpose of testing the Agoda Partner program (http://partners.agoda.com/).

The Agoda principle is simple: you direct people from your website interested in booking a hotel to them and you receive a commission of a booking made within 60 days.

In short, here it is right from the beginning:

Step 1:

• -Bought a Domain and setup website
• -Hired a designer for the theme
• -Outsourced travel stories
• -Outsourced hotel listings

Step 2:

• -Registered for the Agoda Partner Program
• -Got accepted without problems
• -Added the affiliate links

Step 3:

• -Started advertising the website
• -Optimized advertising
• -Got 500% ROI and $40K in less than 7 months

Sounds easy right? Well it wasn't THAT easy:)

I didn't want to rely on search engines for traffic since I knew that ranking for travel related topics is not easy and will take lots of efforts and time, so I didn't even considered that. Instead I chose to find an advertising method that will do the trick. 

I've tested a couple ad networks and advertised on a couple of websites until I found the solution that worked like a charm.

The key: The right ad network, the right ads, the right landing pages. The result: 500% ROI

For the last 6 months all I did was to make sure my advertising campaign doesn't run out of funds. Outside of that I did absolutely nothing. It is completely hands free!

On average I spend $1K/month on advertising. This sends ~2M visitors/month to the site.

I always like to read the comments on any website sale on Flippa. There were a lot of good questions in this listing and to be fair the owner answered every prospective buyer.

One question was how the owner was able to generate this much traffic on $1000 a month ad spend.

The commenter said: I think you need to give us a bit more information regarding how you drive traffic to your site. With 2.1M Unique hits each month and you shelling out about $1000 USD for this traffic, you are spending 1 dollar for each 2100 unique visitors, this is not normal.... at all. Comparing the results you are receiving to a legitimate and well known program such as Adwords, begs the obvious question of how on earth are you doing this, as not even the most productive blackhat methods will achieve this kind of result, let alone the conversion rate you have. It simply does not add up. I cant imagine anyone spending 22K+ on your site without a descent understanding of how you are doing this, the risk is off the charts!

There were 24 bids with the website selling for the buy it now of $80,000.

Its not just domains that sometime resell for less

Website sales are sometimes just as odd as domain sales. Every now and then we see domain sell and then resell later for a lower price. Sometimes the seller is just in need of cash and other times it may have been a name that was purchased at a high point in the market. Arithmetic.com is a recent example as the domain sold for $16,612 in 2010 and recently sold last week for $9900 in the Great Domains October auction.

Last week on Flippa a website sold for just barely more than 1/10 the price it sold for five months earlier.

LinksIQ.com sold for $30,600 and the new owner used the same website broker to come back to Flippa and sell the website. This time the website sold for $3250.

Now the first time around the site boasted over $94,000 in gross profits. The new listing said,

Since the site sold there has been an additional $22,250 in gross revenue on the site.

That $22,250 is based off 5 months so the site has averaged around $4,450 each of those months.

The website broker added:

"I knew both the creator of this site and I have also grown to know the new owner. The site is basically in need of someone who can take this property and market it effectively.

Sales have dipped a slight bit, but the testament here is that with no attention, no marketing, and no time given to the site – the new owner has still produced $4,450 in sales (avg. per month)."

The business is a white label seo services company.

WebmasterTalkForums.com sells for $31,000 on Flippa

WebmasterTalkForums.com sells for $31,000 on Flippa.

WebmasterTalkForums (WTF) is a huge Webmaster Forum with 81,512 threads, 329,877 posts and 72,384 members. It is 1 year and 10 months old. The forum has many active members who post regularly and earns income from BuySellAds and Google Adsense.

The site sold on Flippa for $31,000 with just two bids being made.

The site was established in August 2010.

Three month income average for the site was $966.

Third time around at Flippa, FunnyCorner.net sells for $23,000

The domain funnycorner.net first listed at Flippa.com one year ago and did not sell. There was only one bid made first time it was auctioned off, that bid was $12,000. The site was  estimated to make a net profit of $950 a month.  https://flippa.com/116485-pr-4-funny-pictures-website

Planet Rx.com sells for $1.2 million on a Sunday afternoon ?

According to Flippa, the website PlanetRx.com sold for $1.2 million.

Claimed financials from the listing:

Average net profit of $18,333 monthly.

The site gets 25,833 monthly uniques.

WordpressService.net sells for $12,000 on Flippa

The auction for WordpressService.net concluded yesterday on Flippa.com.  The buy it now was $18,000 but sold for $12,000 with one bid being made.

The listing claimed that the site made $9400 in November. Updated stats for December were showing $7590 as of 12/18.

The business was just started in October of 2011. The seller wrote "We started out our business website in Oct 2011, and you can clearly see that we are already ranking well for most of the WordPress development related keywords."

Selling a site making $9400 a month for $12,000 will be hard for those outside of the online world to understand. I had a client on the consulting side ask if they could get 5x revenue ? I explained they would get nowhere near that and could not begin to understand why not.

Congrats to the buyer and seller, it will be interesting to see if the seller just starts another wordpress site and competes against the buyer.
